Más información sobre Desing poufs
Design poufs (also called ottomans or footstools) are no longer a minor accessory: they are a versatile piece that works as a seat, a footrest and a decorative object all at once. At Exento we select poufs for their design, their materials and how well they adapt to different spaces at home. Here you can buy design poufs online from Andreu World, Enea, MDD, Ogo and Expormim, with the material and measurements of each model in view before you decide.
A design pouf is a low seat, usually without back or arms, made either to mould to the body or to keep a fixed shape depending on its filling. What sets it apart from a regular pouf is the care put into materials, finishes and proportions: it is not just an auxiliary seat, but a piece that can anchor a whole corner of a room.
The historical reference for this type of furniture is the Sacco (1968), designed by Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro for Zanotta: the first pouf filled with polystyrene beads, able to adapt to any body position, and still in production today. That idea lives on in current models such as the Big Bag Pouf by Ogo, filled with microbeads.
In the living room, a pouf works as an extra seat or a footrest next to design armchairs, and its compact size makes it especially useful in small flats. In the bedroom, it usually sits at the foot of the bed or in a reading corner, to rest clothes or accessories on. In the entryway, it gives you a quick place to sit without taking up the space of a larger piece of furniture.
As a practical guide: a pouf between 40 and 50 cm (16-20 in) high works well as a footrest next to a standard sofa (whose seat is usually around 40-45 cm, or 16-18 in), while taller models, at 55-60 cm (22-24 in), work better as an independent seat. In our catalogue, the Beat Puff by Andreu World (42 cm), the Bazalto Pouf by MDD (44 cm) and the Puck Puff by Enea (47 cm) fall within that range; the Lola G Pouf by Ogo (63 cm) is closer to an independent seat.
Round poufs are the most versatile and suit any decorating style, with no corners to get in the way in small spaces. Square or rectangular ones are more practical as a surface (for a tray or a book) thanks to their flat top. And pieces with a backrest add lumbar support that brings them closer to a light armchair, ideal for reading or for watching television for long stretches.
An example of the latter is the MDD Shape Armchair, with an upholstered foam seat and a backrest, which keeps the visual lightness of the pouf format.
The upholstery and the filling determine both how it feels to sit on and how easy it is to look after. This is what you will find in our poufs right now:
| Material | What it offers | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric upholstery (polyester and other fabrics to choose from) | Wide choice of colours and a warm feel; clean with a damp cloth | Bazalto (MDD), Beat (Andreu World), Puck (Enea) |
| Microbead filling | Light and adapts to your posture; avoid constant weight | Big Bag and Lola G (Ogo) |
| Viscoelastic (memory) foam | Shapes to the body and gives firm support | Don Out (Ogo) |
| Upholstery with metal frame | Made for outdoor use, simple lines with rounded corners | Cask (Expormim) |
Each product page shows the exact material and the fabrics available.
There are two valid ways to bring a pouf into your decor, and both work depending on the effect you want. A matching pouf (the same shade or colour family as the main sofa or armchair) gives visual continuity and makes the whole set look planned. A contrasting pouf (a bold tone against a neutral palette) acts as a focal point and adds personality to the room, but it needs more care: the wrong colour can break the balance instead of strengthening it.
As a rule of thumb, if the rest of the room already has several colourful elements, go for a matching pouf; if the room is mostly neutral, a contrasting pouf usually works better as an accent.
A pouf with a flat, firm top can occasionally hold a tray or a book, but it does not stably replace a design side table: the filling gives under weight and the surface is not rigid. It is a one-off solution for events or guests, not a permanent replacement if you often need to put things down.
A pouf works best as a supporting piece, not as an isolated centrepiece. It goes well with design chairs in a reading corner, with design tables as an extra seat when you have more guests than usual, or with armchairs as a matching footrest. To keep the look coherent, repeat at least one material or colour between the pouf and the main piece in the room (upholstery, the wood of the base, or a shade of colour).
At Exento you can buy design poufs online from Andreu World, Enea, MDD, Ogo and Expormim. Each product page lists the material and, when the manufacturer provides them, the measurements, so your decision rests on concrete, verifiable data rather than generic photos before you buy.
If you often have guests, 2 or 3 light poufs that are easy to move solve the extra seating without having to buy a bigger sofa than you use day to day. It is a more flexible solution than enlarging the main sofa: poufs can be stored, grouped or spread around the house as the occasion requires, while an oversized sofa takes up space permanently even if you hardly ever need it.
How do you clean a fabric-upholstered pouf?
With a damp cloth and neutral soap for surface stains. For deeper stains, use a cleaner made for upholstery or a professional cleaning service, depending on the type of fabric.
How long does a pouf with microbead filling last?
With normal use, several years without losing shape, as long as you avoid jumping on it or leaving heavy objects on it for long periods, which compacts the filling irreversibly.
Can a pouf be used outdoors?
Only models made for it, such as the Cask Pouf by Expormim. For the rest, check on the product page that outdoor use is stated before you buy.
Are microbead poufs suitable for children?
Yes, and they are a common choice for children's rooms because they are light and have no rigid frame, although it is worth checking that the cover is removable and washable for heavy use.
