Más información sobre Outdoor design lamps
Our outdoor lamps are built to withstand the elements without compromising on design: every product page lists the material and, where the manufacturer specifies it, the exact IP protection rating.
Outdoor lamps are a type of design lighting built to be installed in gardens, terraces or porches, exposed to rain, direct sun and temperature swings that an indoor fixture simply isn't built to handle. Beyond decoration, they also serve a safety role, lighting entrances, paths and walkways.
That's why they're made from tougher materials than their indoor equivalents: corten steel, stainless steel (often grade 316L, the most corrosion-resistant against humidity), cast aluminium or UV-treated glass. The exact material varies by model — always check the product page before buying.
The IP (Ingress Protection) rating indicates how resistant a fixture is to dust and water, and it's the single most important technical spec when choosing outdoor lighting:
| Location | Minimum recommended IP | Protects against |
|---|---|---|
| Covered porch or terrace | IP44 | Occasional splashes |
| Uncovered garden or balcony | IP65 | Water jets from any direction, and dust |
Installing an indoor lamp outside, even if it looks sturdy, can damage the electrical component the first time it rains. Not every one of our outdoor product pages states an IP rating explicitly — if you can't find it in the description, contact customer service before buying for an exposed area.
- Floor-standing or bollard lights: ground-level fixtures for marking a path, lining a terrace or lighting a garden without any overhead installation — the same idea as an indoor floor lamp, built from weatherproof materials.
- Wall-mounted: for façades, porches and entrances, following the same logic as an indoor wall lamp but with an IP rating suited to the exposure.
- Pendant: designed for pergolas or covered porches, just like an indoor pendant lamp.
- Rechargeable portable lamps: no cable or wiring needed, so you can move them between the table, the floor or a ledge as the occasion calls for it. The Flos In Vitro Unplugged, designed by Philippe Starck, is a good example: USB-C rechargeable, up to 6 hours of battery life, and rated IP65 for both indoor and outdoor use.
- Size and shape: should suit the space and the surrounding furniture — lighting a table calls for a different fixture than an outdoor sofa or a garden path.
- Colour and light temperature: warm light sets a different mood to cool light; some models let you adjust both intensity and tone to suit the time of day.
- Function: general lighting, task lighting and decorative accent lighting each call for a different fixture and placement.
- Installation and upkeep: there are three routes — fixed wiring, a rechargeable battery (like the In Vitro Unplugged), or solar power — each with its own battery life and maintenance needs. Check the product page to see which one a given model uses before buying.
Keeping indoor and outdoor lighting visually consistent helps the transition between the two spaces feel natural, especially on a terrace that opens directly onto the living room. Pairing an outdoor wall light by the door with a similarly styled indoor wall lamp, or a garden bollard light in the same finish family as an indoor floor lamp, creates continuity instead of each space feeling separately decorated.
At Exento we work with brands including Blux, Flos and Expormim, with pieces designed by names like David Abad and Philippe Starck. Every product page lists exact dimensions and material, so your decision doesn't rest on generic photos.

What's the difference between IP44 and IP65?
IP44 protects against occasional splashes, enough for a covered area. IP65 protects against water jets from any direction, needed for an area fully exposed to rain.
Can I use a rechargeable outdoor lamp indoors too?
Yes — portable models like the Flos In Vitro Unplugged are designed to move between indoors and outdoors with no wiring required.
Do all your outdoor lamps state their IP rating on the product page?
Not all of them state it explicitly. If it isn't listed in the product description, contact customer service before installing it in an area exposed to rain.
How much maintenance does a stainless steel outdoor lamp need?
Very little — wiping it with a damp cloth periodically is enough to keep the finish looking good, especially in coastal areas where salt in the air can affect less resistant materials.
Does a solar lamp need as much direct sun as a large solar panel?
It needs several hours of direct sunlight a day to charge properly. In heavily shaded spots, a USB-rechargeable lamp is usually more reliable.
